Mac Gregor Point July 26th 2015

Sunday July 26th 2015                                      152127

Today we are heading to Mac Gregor Point for a camping trip with Jeff and Joey (Elijah).
Left home about 10.30 a.m. in hot sunshine.  Good quiet drive to the park.

Check in was a breeze.  We had reserved, as we wanted a double site, and not only that, this was the only site left available.  Sites 80 and 81.   They were really good too.

The families who previously had these two sites had not yet left when we arrived, about 11.45 a.m.  so we took  a drive to the Turtle Pond and wandered the boardwalk there.   I guess it was a little too hot for the turtles as we did not see any.

The lake was looking good so we wandered a little area of the Shore Line trail, then onto the Huron Fringe Trail.  It was all pretty quiet, and still very hot.

From there we headed into the Visitors Centre, which is always interesting.

Then we made our way  back  to our sites about  1 p.m.  and we were lucky enough to be able to get set up this time.

Site 80, which was ours.  Quite a sunny site, however, we do have our awning if we need it.    A very large site too.

Site 81.  Jeff and Joey's.  Still a large site, but a lot more shade, which was better for Joey.

After lunch Jeff and Elijah took a ride into Town, Port Elgin, for their supplies, while we relaxed in the sunshine.  Luckily there was a nice breeze to help keep us cool.

Several Blue Jays stopped by for a visit and a snack.  Peanuts were on the menu today, so they really enjoyed their visit.

While Jeff and Joey were away we set up our "Washer Toss" game.  Mike was all set for a very one sided game, which it did turn out to be.  But for Mike it was so sad to be on the loosing side .  I won fair and square - 30 Me and only 16 for Mike.  No I am not looking forward to the re-match!

After the boys got back and had all their supplies put away, it was late afternoon and a little cooler, so we headed out on the trail to sunset point.

Today the water was a lot higher  than we have ever seen there.  You could not even see the huge boulders we usually walked on to get to the edge of the point.

Although a little early for the actual sunset, it was still very pretty.  Elijah had a lot of fun with camera too.

Southampton Lighthouse, way off in the hazy distance.

Mike and Jeff seemed to find something that really intrigued them over the Lake.

No - they did not tell us what they were watching.  It became their secret.

From there we made our way back to our camps and fired up the BBQ's for dinner.  It turned out to be quite a late dinner too.  We did not realise the day had ticked away so quickly, and now dinner was at 9.15 p.m.

Oh well, it had been a great day and still really warm out.

The boys came to sit around our campfire tonight.  And it was a beautiful night to sit out.  Huge bright moon, dark cloudless sky with millions, or probably billions of very bright stars.  Plus the weather was still really good.  Not even a breeze to stir up the fire.

A great way to end the day.

Monday July 27th 2015.

Weather still good when we got up, not a cloud in the sky and a nice gentle breeze.

Unfortunately the breeze came to an abrupt end and it got to be very hot and sunny.  There was very little humidity. but at 34c it was just a little warm to take off for a couple of hours hiking.  So our day was extremely lazy, just staying around our site where we could take in any shade we wanted to.

The boys took a drive into town for a  while, but generally it was one of those "Lazy, Hazy, Days Of Summer".   I got a lot of reading done, and I don't mind that at all.

About 4 p.m. Mike and I had our re-match "Washer Toss".  This time Mike won.  Now we have to have the Championship Game again.

The boys came round to cheer us on.

Then time to relax after such a hectic afternoon!

Mike liked to show off his new Tee Shirt the boys had bought him.

When it had cooled off some, after 6 p.m. Mike and I took a slow wander around the Turtle Pond.

Everything was so still in the heat.  It appeared nothing was moving anywhere.

There were not even any seagulls on the Lake.

The slight hint of a far off  sunset reminded us  it must be about time to head  back for another late dinner.

Campfire tonight was at the boy's site.

It was a good fire, and Mike managed to keep us all entertained with many great stories - just like Granddads do.  These stories kept us all hooting with laughter.

We left the boys sitting around their fire about 11.p.m.
Don't know when they turned in.

Regardless of a very hot, lazy day, we all managed to enjoy it.

You can just see the moon shining through the trees again.

Tuesday July 28th 2015.                                             152210

Still hot and sunny.   Today we are heading home to Durham.   But first I want to stop in Port Elgin and wander around a while.  Hope the boys don't mind too much.

The boys didn't mind, and we were on the way to Port Elgin about 11.30 a.m.    There wasn't too much I needed so it didn't take too long.

From Port Elgin we travelled across country  to  Walkerton where Jeff had to pick up a windshield washer motor for the Jeep.  That didn't take long either.

Then we came straight to Durham.   Jeff installed the washer motor before he headed out to return to Guelph, where he would make the most of the remainder of his vacation.   It had been a fun few days, and very relaxing.

Catch you all again very soon -  I hope!                                   152293
