After spending some time doing chores around the house, gardens and vehicles, we are once again heading out camping.
We left Durham, about 9 a.m., brilliant sunshine for the journey today. Our destination is to be Sibbald Point, on Lake Simcoe. However, we have a side trip to do along the way.
We will stop in Stouffville for a visit with Aunt Patricia and Uncle Len. Although it was a short visit, it was very enjoyable, and always good to be able to spend some time with them.
Took site #702, which turned out to be a really good site. Very large and a lovely wooded area to the back. It is a fairly shady site, which will be a good thing as it is predicted to be quite warm and humid.
We had a light, late lunch and just relaxed in the shade for some time. In fact we got far too comfortable and did not even go exploring. Probably a good thing, as it did get really hot and sunny. Plus the previous week I had been working in the yard, in a shady area, but did manage to get plagued by heat exhaustion. Definitely not a good thing! It has been several days now but I still feel slightly dizzy and very tired. Luckily all the other symptoms have gone.
Enough of that - I feel fine, and must admit I am enjoying the relaxation, just not sure I can do it for too long without going crazy.
My Chef pampered me and made a grand dinner. I am sure you can all guess the rest of the evening - yes you got it - relaxing around the campfire. I feel very lazy ( do not like that) but tomorrow is another day.
Tuesday 9th August 2016.
Awoke to a very comfortable, cool, shady camper. However, it was a bright sunny day, but this shady site is doing a good job keeping us cool. After breakfast and the usual chores we planned our day, We are going to the museum here and then the original site of St. Georges Church.
First stop, of course, was the Lake, which looked very inviting. Several people did take up the invite and cooled off in the water. Don't blame them, It was a perfect beach day.
The museum was not far from the beach. And low and behold, we found out it was not open today. All though all info states "OPEN DAILY". What was omitted was the fact that daily meant "Thursday to Sunday, July- September." This is the second time we have tried to view the museum.
Hopefully we will get to visit the Museum one day.
Not far from the Hall was St. Georges Church. It was, prior to 1839, a small wooden Church.
In 1877 the wooden Church was replaced with a stone Church, in the memory of Susan who passed away in
1877. All the work was supervised by Susan's sons.
The stone church has hand painted stained glass windows which were designed and painted by Elizabeth Simcoe, a very good friend of Mrs Sibbald.
It was really a pleasure to be able to wander through the church and the grounds, and see the history first hand.
A short distance from the Church we came across an original log building. At this time there is no indication whether this may have been the school house or the wooden church.
And so that ends today's History Lesson.
On the way back to our campsite we did see these little guys relaxing in the shade.
It was good to get back to #702 as it was getting really hot. The shady site was doing a good job. So much so, that is where we spent the remainder of the day, and the evening. Our two hour walk was quite enough for today.
A very interesting and enjoyable day.
Tomorrow we leave Sibbald and head to Ferris Provincial Park. See you all then.
