MAC GREGOR POINT

Monday October 19th 2015

Yesterday we packed up El Campista ready for a trip to Mac Gregory Point.  The weekend had been quite cold and blustery.  We were in a snow squall watch, but Mother Nature was liking us in Durham, far more than she was liking the Collingwood area.  We really lucked out.

Today we had a frosty start to the bright sunny morning and were all ready to leave by 10.15 a.m.

It was a very quiet drive to the Park.

We were surprised at the amount of people camping here right now, it was quite busy.

We took site #36.  The site right on the edge of the Turtle Pond.

It was quite breezy so we set up our *tent" add-a-room.  which does a good job to keep us out of the wind.

After lunch it was time for a nice walk.

It started out quite cloudy.

Our first stop was the Turtle Pond, and if you look carefully you can just see El Campista in the trees opposite from where we were on the board walk.

From the pond we made our way along the Huron Fringe Trail to the Shore Line.  There were some good white caps on the lake today.

Then we headed to The Deer Run Trail.

Gradually the wind blew most of the clouds away.

We came across a "fungi" tree along the trail.

In fact there were a couple of different fungi around the area.

The trail was really beginning to look the fall with some brilliant fall colours right now.

The next part of the trail was completely covered with fallen leaves.

We did enjoy the look of this wild looking tree.  Almost prehistorical animal looking.

The once stream was now dried up and leaf covered.

It was a very pleasant walk , although quite breezy.  However, the sun kept us warm.   We didn't get to see any birds or animals on this walk.

By the time we made it back to #36 it was about 4.15 p.m. and time for a bevvy.

It remained very windy and did cool off quite quickly so we got the campfire going, which worked well until the storm hit!

By 7.30 p.m. we were in the midst of a big thunderstorm, very loud thunder, some good light shows followed by the heavy rain.

Luckily our "dining tent" worked very well.  And the rest of the evening was spent there and inside El Campista, while we listened to the Blue Jays win another game.  Hope they do the same tomorrow.

Tuesday 20th October 2015.

Still very windy when we got up this morning, and although a few clouds still around the sun was doing it's best to win the battle and give us a nice day.

Just as we were finishing breakfast the rain started again.  It had won the battle right then.  However it was not heavy rain like we had last night and by 11.30 it was all over again.

Once again we started off on The Deer Run Trail, but a different part of the trail to what we had done yesterday.

That led us to the Merganser Cove area.  No Merganser's again.

However there were some good white caps on Lake Huron again today.  They looked a lot bigger than the white caps of yesterday.

It was a good day for walking, the sun was doing a good job keeping us warm again.

We wandered past the small pond, where we see many turtles through the summer, but not right now.

From there we got on the Old Shore Line Trail and headed along the beach area.

Then back to #36 for lunch.

There were a few showers through the afternoon, so we did not get our usual afternoon walk.

4 p.m. we did manage to get outside and get the campfire going and listen to The Ball Game.

There were a few visitors through the later afternoon and early evening hours.

Blue Jays arrived for a snack.

Hope it is a good omen!

Chickadees joined in the feast.

And of course the squirrels could not resist a good snack.

Our Boy's in Blue did not win the important game.  It's do or die tomorrow.

It turned out to be a very pleasant evening, no wind, no rain and quite warm.

And that is how we ended our day - enjoying the open air and a nice campfire.

Wednesday October 21st. 2015

It was a very cloudy morning and for some reason an early start to it.  It was not at all cold.

After breakfast we started to pack things away.  Time to had back home again.

We had our usual stop in Port Elgin before a very easy drive back to Durham.

Hopefully we will return before the snow flies.
